Mysore
After meeting you at the airport we take you to your accommodations for a freshen up, and then venture to Srirangapatnam, home to 9th Century Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple and 400 year old Nimishamba Temple where it is said the goddess will remove devotees troubles in one single minute. We end the evening early allowing you time to adjust to the time ready for your trip. 2
Mysore
We begin our first full day in Mysore with an early visit to the colourful Devaraja Flower Market and walking tour of the surrounds. We’ll visit Mysore Palace, residence of the Wadiyar dynasty, Jaganmohana Palace and the gothic architecture of St Philomena’s Church.
In the evening we can retire to accommodations or take an optional walking food tour. 3
Ooty
Today we escape the city and head to the Nilgiri Hills where we enjoy a tour of the St Stephens Church and the 20 million year old fossilised tree in the Botanical Gardens, Toda Huts, and the Ooty Tea Factory. 4
Madurai
We’re starting our day with a journey on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway to Coonoor, before continuing our drive to one of the longest living cities in the world, Madurai. 5
Madurai
Following breakfast we’re taken on a guided walking tour of the city, before an afternoon at the grand Tirumalai Nyak Palace erected in 1636 AD and experiencing the daily closing ceremony at the magnificent 16th century Sri Meenakshi Temple. 6
Rameswaram
If you love the story of the Ramayana, you will love our day today. We are driving to Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple where will walk the sacred halls and visit the Rama Bridge before retiring to our accommodation for the evening. 7
Kaaraikkudy
This morning we venture to a beautiful heritage home in Kaaraikkudy. We will explore the beautiful houses and antique markets before finishing our day with a cooking class for dinner. 8
Kaaraikkudy
Following breakfast we are privileged to enjoy a vallige visit in Kanadugathan. Watching traditional tile makers of the famous Athangudi floor tiles, and exploring the local weaving centre. 9
Thanjavur
This morning we travel to Thanjavur stopping en-route at Sri Ranganatha Swami Temple. In the afternoon we will tour the 11th Century Chola Temples, including Brihadeshwara Temple and Fort. 10
Kumbakakonam
This morning we visit a Veena (traditional Indian musical instrument) making centre and then journey onto the temple city, Kumbakakonam, stopping en-route to visit the UNESCO 12th century temple of Airavatesvara. 11
Pondicherry
This morning we venture to India's French Riviera, Pondicherry, stopping to see Chidambaram Temple, one of the oldest surviving active temples in South India. After checking into our accommodations for the next 2 nights, we will take a guided evening food tour. 12
Pondicherry
We have an early start today with a cycle through the seaside city's colonial architecture and cobblestone streets followed by a refreshing breakfast. After a freshen up we enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing including the 17th century church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. 13
Mahabalipuram
This morning we drive to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shore Temple, and have your final day free to spend at leisure in your resort by the beautiful Bay of Bengal. 14
Chennai
Today we say our final goodbyes, driving you to Chennai to start your journey home.
